One Foot In Front Of The Other

“If nothing changes – nothing changes” – Courtney C. Stevens.

Stacey hadn’t taken a class yet at Orangetheory (OT); however, she knew that she needed a change and something new in her fitness routine, which would challenge her. She wanted to be pushed out of her comfort zone.

Her friend, Kirsten (another OT member), told her to check out Orangetheory telling her that she’ll get “hooked.” She remembered walking through the studio doors with a class in session and couldn’t believe what she saw. “It blew my mind the amount of people from all age groups who were in class,” said Stacey. After sitting and chatting with Persia, a fitness consultant at the time, she decided to take a trial class.

The day finally arrived for her first class. She felt nervous and excited as she arrived to see many members waiting in the hallway. Shay coached Stacey’s first class supporting her by telling her “she could do it.”

“I would not be where I am today with running if it weren’t for the treadmill, coaches and fellow OTF members. They have pushed me out of my comfort zone 100 percent.”

When she hopped onto the treadmill, she saw many others running on either side of her. At this point, she couldn’t run and decided to power walk – this would eventually change.

As class drew to a close, Stacey said, “I was dripping in sweat and by the time the class was over I had asked myself, ‘where do I sign up?’”

Stacey has shown her devotion in improving herself since day one. She began by going to class two to three times per week progressing to five or six times per week. She also takes two classes a day at least once a week. Her motivation to constantly train shows her commitment to be better than the day before.

“I have had times that I want to give up and quit and then a coach or staff member will look at me and say, ‘you got this – you are worth it.’ That, to me, shows they care and they want to help us live our healthiest lives.”

When she started her fitness journey at OT, her goals were to stick with the workouts and not give up. She has diligently maintained these goals for three years now putting one foot in front of the other. Stacey’s training helped her hit a major milestone – to be able to run. She said, “I would not be where I am today with running if it weren’t for the treadmill, coaches and fellow OTF members. They have pushed me out of my comfort zone 100 percent.”

Stacey has reached and maintained her goals, but now has a new one. She wants to run more than just 5Ks. She wants to go further…a half or full marathon is on the horizon.

Orangetheory along with many other businesses have closed due to COVID-19. Stacey has dealt with this obstacle by running inside and outside, lifting weights and doing the in-home Orangetheory workouts.  She has remained connected with the community through social media seeing what everyone has been doing to stay motivated.

One of the best things about Orangetheory that Stacey likes is the ability to hit any studio nation wide – a major perk of membership. However, the biggest aspect she loves is the coaches and staff. She becomes emotional when she thinks about it. “I have had times that I want to give up and quit and then a coach or staff member will look at me and say, ‘you got this – you are worth it.’ That, to me, shows they care and they want to help us live our healthiest lives,” said Stacey.

In addition, the OT community at Orenco Station is one big family. She loves how everyone comes together to build each other up. Everyone helps each other to be better by developing a bond among the members.

Orangetheory offers an experience unlike any other workout regimen. It’s not just a workout but also a way of life. The classes will push you to your brink and more to where you thought your mind and body couldn’t go. She said, “When you are hooked, you will bleed orange…The coaches will push you right when you’re about to give up to help you reach your goals.”

Worth the Drive

Eryn_1

To get the results that you want in fitness, all you have to do is put one foot in front of the other and commit to the process. For Eryn, all it took for her was to walk through the studio doors of Orangetheory (OT).

Like so many others before, Eryn worked out by herself at a gym. Her normal routine consisted of 50 minutes of cardio and 10 minutes of weights on the machines. She felt lost with no direction and never knew what to do. Not seeing the results she wanted, she took a new approach.

I felt empowered and so excited to come back.”

Eryn heard about OT and couldn’t wait to try it. In the fall of 2017, she took a tour at the OT studio in West Linn. The coaches and front counter staff made her feel welcomed. She then joined the Orangetheory nation.

However, her time there didn’t last long. She cancelled her membership and moved to Vernonia in February. The closest studio she could go to was Orenco Station. Her hiatus from OT was short lived.

A few months later, she rejoined at Orenco Station. She knew the value of it and how Orangetheory gave her the results she wanted. She said, “I was nervous to join a new studio but after one class I knew that the hour drive was worth it no matter how crazy my family thought I was for driving so far. I have taken classes at a number of studios but the environment at Orenco Station is something special. The staff is one of a kind…they truly care about all members and are there for you no matter what.”

Eryn_2

She recalls taking her first class during Hell Week, which is not for the faint of heart. Although she felt terrified at first, the fear eventually went away and after class she never felt better. “I felt empowered and so excited to come back,” she said.

Two and a half years later, Orangetheory has not only helped her lose fat and gain muscle, but also accomplish things she never thought possible. Eryn said, “In 2019 I was able to run eight half marathons and finished my very first full marathon. OTF is like no other. I always feel supported and motivated by my peers.”

The things, which motivate her and keep her coming back are the constant results. Her body continues to evolve and transform. She recently gained a new personal record (PR) on the weight room floor. She lifted weights that she never thought she could lift and last month she ran her fastest mile ever.

“OTF has not only transformed my body, but also has helped transform my mind. I have never been more confident in my abilities in the gym, but also in my personal life I have the strength to make positive changes. I know that with some hard work and consistency I can do anything. I mean, I ran 26.2 miles last year – there is nothing that I can’t do.”

She enjoys turning on the treadmill and pushing herself on endurance days. Strength days prove difficult for her, but she never misses a strength day because she knows she needs to work on this the most. “I have goals to gain more muscle and the amazing coaches have helped me get closer to this goal each week. Another benefit of OTF is the workouts, which are never the same; so even after so many classes, I never get bored. They always keep us on our toes,” said Eryn.

Eryn_3

Her friends and family ask what it is about Orangetheory that keeps her coming back? One word– community. Last year was hard for her. She struggled with mental health issues causing a brief disappearance, but she never felt alone. Her OT family reached out to her to make sure she was okay.

This past Thanksgiving, her crazy Orangtheory Run Squad talked her into doing a 90-minute class and following it up by crushing a 5K race together. Eryn said, “Holidays are meant to be spent with family and I am so grateful I was surrounded by my OTF family this Thanksgiving. That has to be the thing that I love most – the family that I have gained.”

They supported her every step of the way. When she felt ready to come back, she felt as if she didn’t miss a day. She has created lifelong friends at Orenco Station and feels grateful. During the Dri-Tri last year, Persia asked her, “Remember where you were five years ago? Look at where you are now!” This brought her to tears when she came so close to slowing down during the workout. Persia gave her the motivation she needed to keep going.

OT has helped her stay accountable and has given her the strength to improve many things in her life. Eryn feels much stronger mentally and physically.

Keep Burning Eryn!

Rediscovering a Past Joy

Dante_1.jpg

Sometimes a hobby that you enjoy doing can get stale and stagnant. This certainly was the case for Dante who weight lifted and worked out for nine years where it became boring for him. He eventually fell out of love when it came to working out in general.

He heard of Orangetheory (OT), but didn’t know much about it until he decided to take a class and saw what it was all about. He said, “The first class was a butt kicking in the best way possible! It was like an awakening. I felt great, but also felt challenged in a way I hadn’t in a long time.”

Members train at the studio often whether it’s to decompress from the day or to train for a half marathon. Dante comes in frequently because of the way it makes him feel. He feels motivated after taking class. “I know that I’m going to battle in that room, and I know that when it’s over, that will be the hardest part of my day. Everything else is a breeze after that,” he said.

“I’ve never been a strong distance runner and I’ve managed to improve every time.”

Dante_3

When Dante started his new fitness regimen at OT, he wanted to get into better shape overall. He wanted to improve his cardio because he couldn’t run for distance and he wanted to strengthen his core. He now works on simply improving himself by getting stronger, having better balance and continuing to work on his cardio.

“I’m a glutton for punishment. I love feeling like I got my butt handed to me and Orangetheory absolutely does that.”

Dante has improved his time on the mile run, which was a milestone for him. “I’ve never been a strong distance runner and I’ve managed to improve every time,” said Dante. He now looks to step up his rowing game and improve his rowing skills.

Dante_2

Everyone has their reasons for what they like about classes. Dante loves the challenge of OT and how loud and fun the music energizes the atmosphere in the studio. He also adds how amazing the coaches bring something different to the table challenging and pushing him while having fun. “I’m a glutton for punishment. I love feeling like I got my butt handed to me and Orangetheory absolutely does that,” he said.

Finally, the community at Orenco Station brings everything together for him. He loves seeing other members challenge themselves and getting out of their comfort zones high-fiving each other.

Keep Burning Dante!

Skies the Limit

Susan D.jpg

Many members of Orangetheory (OT) find out about it in various ways. For the most part, potential members learn about it via social media and by walking by the studio at Orenco. However, Susan learned about OT from her friends who raved about it.

Susan heard positive feedback about OT and wanted to see what the hype was all about. She and her husband came by the studio while it was under construction to learn more about Orangetheory. Not seeing results she wanted at different gyms, she took a leap of faith and signed up as a founding member.

“I am amazed at where I am at in my physical training. I have pushed myself to the point where I didn’t think I could go any further and have exceeded it.”

The day finally arrived when she took her first class with Coach Shay as her instructor. “I burned over 500 calories and got about 50 splat points. I felt like I had a real sense of accomplishment. And, a bonus –  it didn’t kill me!” said Susan.

Susan before OTF.jpg

Before starting her fitness journey at Orenco, Susan had one goal – to see positive results. Slowly, yet surely, she has definitely seen the results she was looking for. Susan’s new goal is to attend class at least four times a week and to push herself harder each time.

Working in the travel industry, she knows how difficult working out can be flying to different cities and countries. She said, “I’m a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines and travel very regularly, so to achieve my goal, I attend classes in other countries and cities. OTF gives me that opportunity. I have attended classes in Utah, Georgia, Arkansas, California, Minnesota, Canada, and England.”

Susan D_3.jpg

Susan started as a power walker and can now run a mile in less than nine minutes and rowed 2,000 meters in 8:05. In addition, she has finished in the top three in her age group for most of the benchmark challenges. She accomplished these milestones through her determination, motivation by the coaches, and by the encouragement of other members.

She feels accomplished every time she completes a class. Susan said, “I am amazed at where I am at in my physical training. I have pushed myself to the point where I didn’t think I could go any further and have exceeded it.” Susan likes endurance days the most challenging her to see how far she can run, row and lift.

The things she loves the most are the friendships that she has established with other members, staff and coaches. She and her husband moved to Hillsboro five and a half years ago and due to her job, she hadn’t formed many friendships. However, Orangetheory changed that for her where she has made more friends. Her workout buddy, Rebecca, has helped Susan master the art of rowing when she takes the 6 a.m. class.

Susan D_2.jpg

Orangetheory continues to push her farther than she dreamed possible, which she loves the most. Susan has even convinced her daughter and son to join and is trying to get her husband to try a class spreading the OT love.

Since December, she has pushed herself to work harder and has lost almost 50 pounds since joining. She knows that Orangetheory will keep her on track and continue to push her to be the best version of herself.

Keep Burning Susan!

Continuous Goals

Jared Roth_1.jpg

Persistence pays off and that’s why so many members at Orangetheory (OT) see positive results quickly. Jared exemplifies his commitment and desire to reach his fitness goals every time he comes to the studio. You’ll see Jared and Ann, his wife, taking classes at 6 a.m. nearly every weekday morning.

Jared wanted a fresh approach to a fitness routine, which included training support in a community environment – he came to the right place! He saw an OT Orenco Station sign and researched what Orangetheory was all about. He found what he was looking for. Both he and Ann signed up as founding members and couldn’t wait for the studio to open.

“I am maintaining my weight while increasing muscle mass and my blood pressure is in a low and healthy range.”

He was excited for his first class but had doubts about the unknown. Jared wasn’t sure if he could do the workout, or if he could keep up and wasn’t sure how he would feel with his heart rate on the TV screen. “By the end of the first class I was totally in. This was what I was looking for. A great workout informed by science created by professional trainers and facilitated by excellent coaches,” said Jared.

Jared had the goals of simply becoming physically fit and more flexible prior to starting Orangetheory. He worked on speed and lifting heavier in his first year and weight loss his second year. Now in his third year at OT, he has focused on weight maintenance, getting faster and stronger.

Jared Roth_2.jpg

The regular training that produces results motivates Jared to come in on a frequent basis. He feels the transformation in his body and his soul rejuvenated. Jared also enjoys connecting with all his new OT friends in class.

In his first two years at the studio, Jared dropped 50 pounds! He said, “I am maintaining my weight while increasing muscle mass and my blood pressure is in a low and healthy range.” Jared tracks his daily caloric burn and intake striving for monthly goals by increasing his speed by 0.2 mph on the treadmill, watt output by five on the rower and weight on the floor. He’s now working on running an eight-minute mile by the end of the year and continually working on his flexibility.

Jared Roth_4

Every time he comes to the studio, he’s always impressed with the OT Orenco Station team and happy with community at the studio. The staff welcomes him with smiles, gives encouragement in class and takes interests in his and his wife’s lives. Jared always looks forward to the 6 a.m. class.

“Our coaches are extraordinary. I have had personal training and the OTF coaches are the most informed, motivating, and encouraging professionals that I ever had. Each has their distinct personality, flavor, and each brings the highest standard of coaching direction. The staff is warm and engaging, welcoming and helpful solving any challenge I bring to them for assistance.”

Jared Roth_3.jpg

Orangetheory Orenco Station accelerates success towards his physical goals in a beautiful and professional studio with carefully designed workouts directed by great coaches. He’s definitely a fan to say the least.

A Fresh Approach to Training

Nicole Jones

If you’ve ever met Nicole, you’ll know that she has an outgoing and friendly personality. She always walks in with a smile on her face ready to conquer her workout at the studio. Orangetheory (OT) breaks up her busy day as a physical therapist or tending to her chickens at home. Nicole arrives ready for class whether it’s a themed day or signature workout dominating all the classes she takes.

“I needed something that would push me more than I would push myself at a regular gym.”

Nicole came to Orangetheory Orenco Station as a well-seasoned endurance athlete. She had a busy running season in 2018 running the Maui Oceanfront Marathon in January, Boston Marathon in April and Berlin Marathon in September. Thinking of these marathons would make anyone tired…phew.

Granted she accomplished these major feats, her mind and body were exhausted from the thought of going out for another long run for training. She wanted to do something fresh and different and that’s when she signed up for her first class at Orenco Station.

Nicole has a great familiarity with how to work out as a physical therapist. “I needed something that would push me more than I would push myself at a regular gym,” said Nicole. She remembers taking her first “power” day class – a hard one at that. When she worked out on her own, her idea of a “power” day was running sprints or doing fartleks.

Nicole Jones_2.jpg

“I’m so stoked to have hit 7:16:00 on the 2,000m (row) DRITRI and not feel like I was toast and ended up finishing first for the women at Orenco. My overall efficiency has greatly improved and the rower is now one of my favorite parts of the OTF workouts.”

She had never worked so hard on the water rower and loved how exhausted she felt – she was immediately hooked on OT! Knowing the variety of new workouts and knowing that she’ll improve each month keeps her coming back for more. Nicole said, “I ran one of my fastest 5ks during my first DRITRI last month and was so happy that all the hard work and encouragement I get each day from the coaches really pay off.”

Prior to starting her fitness routine at OT, she set a long-term goal of completing all of the six major marathons. She’s completed Maui, Boston and Berlin, and is ready to take on London, New York and Tokyo. “Some races are based on time qualifications, charity or lottery. I knew I needed to change my workout regimen and challenge myself more if I were going to get another time qualifier. It’s going to be a long road but I’m excited to get there,” said Nicole.

She continues to improve her marathon time and makes smaller goals periodically of running at a faster base pace or rowing a distance under a particular time. Nicole’s biggest improvement at the studio is on the rower. Her form has vastly improved translating into better times.

She said, “I’m so stoked to have hit 7:16:00 on the 2,000m (row) DRITRI and not feel like I was toast and ended up finishing first for the women at Orenco. My overall efficiency has greatly improved and the rower is now one of my favorite parts of the OTF workouts.”

Not surprising at all, Nicole likes “endurance” days at the studio as a marathon runner. Although her body may want to stop, she tells herself to keep going and her body will follow. “Endurance challenges are all about mind power and having a mantra that will carry you through has always helped me,” said Nicole.

Nicole Jones_3.jpg

She loves that everyone pushes themselves to be a happier and healthier human in class. When she sees the person next to her grab a heavier weight or increase the speed by 0.1, she does the same. Nicole knows that Orangetheory has an amazing atmosphere, which welcomes and challenges anyone at any fitness level.

Last month, Nicole visited an OT studio in Nashville, Tennessee and it made her realize how special Orenco Station is. She loves walking into a place where she is welcomed with a smile and encouraging coaches. Everyone interacts with each other and she’s happy to have gained so many new friends at OT Orenco Station.

Nicole said, “This may be cheesy; however, with being in my profession, I am always aspiring people to get healthier and stronger and OTF does just this.”

 Keep Burning Nicole!

One Hour Sweat Therapy

Leah Ayotte.jpg

Difficult times call for self-reflection and growth. Orangetheory (OT) gives this to anyone who seeks either. This gives them an opportunity to analyze where they’ve been, what they want to do, and a strategy to get them on the right path for success in fitness.

Leah came to OT at a difficult time in her personal life and needed an outlet to improve her overall mental and physical health. Growing up, she spent the majority of her childhood overweight and needed the knowledge to fix it. OT gave her the information and structured training she needed for success – as her first fitness routine – to help her get into shape for the first time.

The first class she took terrified her with its intensity. Leah said, “I remember hitting almost 45 splat points. I was motivated by getting as many points as possible and I nearly killed myself doing so! I left feeling so accomplished and awesome.” She didn’t sign up for a membership right away because she wanted to make sure she had the motivation to go again the next day. Her second class had her hooked!

Leah Ayotte_3

“I love the feeling of looking and feeling strong. I want to run a half marathon this summer.”

Ever since she took her first couple of classes, she became addicted to the feeling after completing the hour-long workout. Leah realized that if you slack and don’t come to class for a while, the coaches will contact you to get you back into class. The classes keep her engaged, focused and give her therapy by sweating it all out.

Leah didn’t have any specific fitness goals when she began her fitness journey at OT. She only knew that she wanted to improve her overall health in a class environment that could teach her how to properly train. However, she now has goals of increasing her speed on the treads, lifting heavier weights and staying consistent in every class.

Running challenges her the most – which, she loves along with power days – but hates the inclines. She ran her first 5K as one of her major accomplishments — this was something she thought she couldn’t achieve. Now, Leah has gone as far as signing up for three more upcoming races in advance.

Leah Ayotte_2

“I love inviting my friends and we can all work out in our own way. There is something truly special about that. It’s a judgment-free zone where we are all on the same level no matter what age or shape your are in.”

She has also pushed herself to increase her strength training by adding her own weight-training regimen to push her limits. The classes have shown her how to use correct form and technique to not injure herself. “I love the feeling of looking and feeling strong. I want to run a half marathon this summer,” said Leah.

Leah loves seeing so many familiar faces and the positivity that the coaches and members bring to the studio. “We all know it, but this is a unique family that we have. Hearing the coaches praise your efforts, call you out when you’re taking it easy and push you to be the best version of yourself makes OTF such a fun place to be,” said Leah. She likes how all the members encourage each other and having someone smile at you while you’re dying on the treadmill makes it much easier.

The variety of classes at OT makes coming here fun and she loves how it never bores or burns her out. She constantly feels challenged by the workouts pushing her to be better and stronger. Leah said, “I love inviting my friends and we can all work out in our own way. There is something truly special about that. It’s a judgment-free zone where we are all on the same level no matter what age or shape your are in.”

Leah can’t thank the staff and members enough for building the OT Orenco Station culture. She has made some serious life changes and attributes them to the family that she has found here looking forward to her continued fitness goals with everyone.

Keep Burning Leah!

Finding Consistency and Motivation

Libby_1

Many members who come to Orangetheory (OT) come because they have specific fitness goals such as losing weight, gaining muscle or developing a fitness routine. However, there are individuals like Libby who are looking for consistency and motivation. She came to the right place and found what she needed.

Libby grew up playing a variety of sports her entire life. She also played volleyball as a collegiate athlete and continues to play in a league at Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District. She has experienced a wide range of workouts and training having worked with various personal trainers.

When she lived in the Orenco Station area, she worked out on her own feeling unmotivated and inconsistent with her workout routine. Before the studio opened, she stopped by to learn more about OT and spoke with Chad. The idea of OT had her intrigued, which led her to join as a founding member.

“I used to hate running. Running was not enjoyable because I would get tired so quickly and I have a lot of foot/leg injuries from the past. Since joining Orangetheory, I’ve been able to run multiple times per week without experiencing pain and without feeling completely winded.”

unnamed.jpg

Libby recalls feeling nervous for her first class at the studio not knowing what she was getting herself into. “It was fun but I wasn’t the best at pacing myself. I was sore for the next four days! But I wanted to come back,” she said. When she first started, she had goals of getting back into shape, losing weight and toning her muscles. Every time she walks into the studio, Libby burns for her health and the food she loves to eat – she loves food – who can blame her?

She has attended classes now for nearly two years enjoying ESP and power days. She strives for the goals of improving her cardio and maintaining her strength. Libby loves how every workout is never the same, which keeps it exciting and challenging. The variety of exercises allows her to continually improve in different areas.

“The coaches here are the best – they have fun – they’re motivating and they challenge us. I appreciate that they take the time to get to know us as individuals and give us feedback about how to modify and improve.”

If you don’t power walk, then you’re either a jogger or a runner. Libby hated running in the past, but can now run more frequently as a milestone she has reached. I used to hate running. Running was not enjoyable because I would get tired so quickly and I have a lot of foot/leg injuries from the past. Since joining Orangetheory, I’ve been able to run multiple times per week without experiencing pain and without feeling completely winded,” she said. Before joining OT, she would have not run on her own but she recently went on a run outside for the first time in years.

Libby_2

One of the things Libby loves about the community at Orenco Station is how everyone supports and encourages each other. Libby said, “The coaches here are the best – they have fun – they’re motivating and they challenge us. I appreciate that they take the time to get to know us as individuals and give us feedback about how to modify and improve.” She feels like she has a personal coach even though it’s in a group workout.

A major selling point at OT is the use of the heart rate monitor as a tool in class keeping everyone honest with themselves. She loves looking up at the screen and monitoring her heart rate. This allows her to listen to her body and she knows exactly how to push herself.

“OTF has been my most consistent workout routine. Even when life has been busy or stressful, I’ve gone every week since I’ve joined and love going. Plus, I’ve been able to complete workouts at other studios in town and while on vacation, which has helped me stay consistent. I’ve also noticed how OTF workouts have also improved my performance in volleyball,” she said.

Keep Burning Libby!

A World of Improvement

Aaron Staggs_5
Aaron one year and 10 months of going to Orangetheory

A year makes a difference. Last year around this time we featured our member Aaron who had attended class at the studio since its opening. Fast forward to now and you wouldn’t believe how far he has come. He is fit and most importantly – healthy.

Aaron goes to class more often now ranging from five to six classes per week, which is impressive for anyone. Prior to ramping up his frequency of classes, he went to class three to four times per week. “I often say I replaced my addiction to food with an addiction to OTF. That is pretty accurate but really, I always want to be improving and that’s what we do,” said Aaron.

Aaron Staggs_1
Aaron nine months of going to Orangetheory

“I’m faster, stronger, I’m happier, more confident, the list goes on and on. I’d say I’m a pretty different person from who I was year ago – a much better one.”

In addition to changing how many times he comes to the studio, he has also changed up his nutrition. He recently transitioned out of the Keto diet and has recently hit his goal of losing 60 pounds. However, the last 20 pounds he has lost has not been easy to lose but he has triumphed through his tenacity, commitment and discipline. He’s now on a normal diet and getting most of his food from ReadyFitGo.

Aaron before OTF
Aaron before Orangetheory

Throughout the year, Aaron has seen improvements physically and mentally. “I’m faster, stronger, I’m happier, more confident, the list goes on and on. I’d say I’m a pretty different person from who I was year ago – a much better one,” said Aaron. When he first started Orangetheory, Aaron power walked and can now jog/run in class, which he didn’t feel confident about it in the past.

“Be consistent even if it’s small, you’ll see results. Fall in love with the process, it’s where all the fun happens.”

Aaron was recently invited to hike nine miles, which he completed without any issues where he would have hesitated about it in the past. He said, “I don’t have to let those physical challenges bar me from anything like the St. Jude5K we just did!” He’s now working on power lifting slowly improving on his bench press, squat and dead lift outside the studio, which Orangetheory helps with.

For those members who haven’t reached their fitness goals yet, Aaron says, “Be consistent even if it’s small, you’ll see results. Fall in love with the process, it’s where all the fun happens.” Wise words from a seasoned Orangetheory athlete – Keep Burning Aaron!

She’s Going the Distance

Kelsie_1

Many members who come to Orangetheory (OT) come maybe 10 – 15 minutes early. There are some members who come 30 minutes early, like Kelsie, excited for class to start. She arrives at the studio ready to go and to chat with friends and staff.

Prior to joining the OT Orenco Station tribe, Kelsie ran for about two years on her own but hit a wall in her training. She didn’t feel well during and after her runs because she had no strength – Kelsie wanted to fix this.

“I love that it is attainable for everyone. It is possible for everyone to get a good workout no matter what their skill level is.”

She wanted to improve herself as a runner and luckily learned about OT at a 5K she ran. “I saw an OTF tent at one of my 5Ks, talked to the staff for a couple of minutes, and had a feeling I would love it. I’m not very self-motivated, so knowing that there was going to be a coach made me feel like it was something I could be successful at,” said Kelsie.  This catapulted her to try her first class at Orenco Station.

Kelsie_2

Kelsie remembers feeling exhausted after her initial class, which had a familiar feel to her. Growing up, she figure skated competitively and also competed in track and field as a jumper in high school. The coaching aspect in class and having her pushed to her limits felt similar to the sports she loves. At that moment – she was hooked immediately. Kelsie said, “I love that it is attainable for everyone. It is possible for everyone to get a good workout no matter what their skill level is.”

When she first started coming to class, she burned for her running. While still true, Kelsie burns for more now. She burns for stronger muscles, heavier weights, and accomplishing more now than what she thought possible from a year ago.

“I absolutely love that the workouts are ever changing; it keeps things interesting and keeps me on my toes. I also think that we have the most amazing coaches here at Orenco and their positivity keeps me so motivated to finish every workout strong.”

She started OT last year with a goal of improving her running game and now has more goals she wants to reach. Kelsie wants to lift heavier weights, run faster and longer than before. She said, “Persia recently taught me how to utilize the bike for a very good workout, so I would like to try to incorporate this into my workouts every once in a while as well.”

Since joining, Kelsie has reached a milestone and can now perform multiple sets of push-ups and sit-ups where she could only do one or two of them before joining OT. Her running has definitely improved. She felt drained after running a 5K in the past, but had completed a 10K in May and will run a half marathon in September.

As an endurance athlete, the runner in her loves endurance classes but she also holds a special place in her heart for endurance, strength and power (ESP) days because she had it as her first class. “I absolutely love that the workouts are ever changing; it keeps things interesting and keeps me on my toes. I also think that we have the most amazing coaches here at Orenco and their positivity keeps me so motivated to finish every workout strong,” she said.

Kelsie loves coming to the studio seeing it as a home away from home. The place has a family vibe every time she walks through the door with all the hugs and smiles that she receives from staff. She appreciates all the support from other members and coaches during class especially when she feels like she’s not able to finish the last 15 seconds of an all-out – and the life advice and injury support from AmyJae and Jess.

Keep Burning Kelsie!
